Innovative Language Training Course
English for Students, Lecturers and Administrators
of Technical Universities
Innovative Language
Training Course ILAN is intended for three groups of learners:
students, teachers of technical disciplines, and administrative
staff of engineering universities. The series is designed for
further development of the communicative competence acquired during
previous compulsory English training. The course can be used for
additional (extended) education as an element of lifelong foreign
language training of specialists. The main goal of the series is to
train learners to use international English to promote academic
mobility in higher technical education in Europe.
ILAN course consists of three Foreign Language Curricula, Coursebook,
Learner's Guide, Role Play International Conference, Teacher's
Guide, and Multimedia Toolkit.
The Coursebook is the core textbook of the set of teaching materials. It
contains common modules for the three groups of learners and
consists of Contents Map, Units, Vocabulary, Appendices, and
References. Each unit contains the sections: Reading, Glossary,
Listening (Listening to a Mini Lecture, Listening to a
Conversation), Speaking, Writing, and Bridging the Cultural Gap.
Learner's Guide consists of three main parts: English for Students,
English for Lecturers, and English for Administrators. Each part
contains modules specific only for one target group.
The Role Play is the integral part of the set of teaching materials, is
aimed at the three groups of learners and is used at the final stage
of the training course. It is simulating the international
conference Towards Global Education Forward or Backward?. The
play gives the opportunity to evaluate integrated skills acquired by
the target groups and by each individual learner.
Teacher's Guide contains methodical materials for English language
teachers: the concept of ILAN course, necessary recommendations,
texts for listening, keys to the tasks, etc.
Multimedia Toolkit consists of 6 units with identical structure. Every
unit includes the following sections: Reading, Listening, Writing,
and Culture. The sections of Multimedia Toolkit are accompanied by
video, audio, and interactive tests for control and self-testing of
acquired knowledge. In addition, Multimedia Toolkit includes
Glossary of key terms, accompanied by sound. Application of
up-to-date multimedia technology in this course makes the study
process more interesting and increases its efficiency.
