University
of Klagenfurt, Austria (A1)
From early on
the University of Klagenfurt has given particular attention to the
educational dimension of academic disciplines. In line with this
tradition, the English Department at Klagenfurt University has
always taken a special interest in foreign language teaching.
Teachers of this department are well familiar with innovative and
advanced methods of foreign language teaching, which will provide
the theoretical basis for designing the language learning materials
for the ILAN-project.
Expertise in
ESP (English for Specific Purposes) is essential for the success of
the ILAN-project, since many of the course participants will be
trained engineers needing intensive language work relevant to their
professional careers. Finally, the language courses offered at
Klagenfurt University are held by experienced language teachers with
very high teaching qualifications. Most of the language teachers are
native speakers of English who have been working in international
contexts. In other words, they represent excellent role-models for
language learning, and they have the international experience to
work with target groups as specified in the project description.
Klagenfurt
University act as the GrantHolder of ILAN-project, it has the
experience of former successful Tempus-projects DIERUU (2002-2004),
TREM (2005-2006), MULTICEP (20042007).
Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI), Russian Federation (RU2)
MADI (STU) is
one of the leading higher schools on engineer-pedagogical education
in Russia. Center of engineering pedagogic if MADI(STU) focuses on
the retraining of teachers in engineering high schools and technical
Universities, designed to qualify Russian teachers to integrate with
the European educational system. MADI(STU) has especially strong
cooperation with University of Klagenfurt, which is the methodical
center of engineer-pedagogical education in Europe.
The Department
of foreign languages of MADI(STU) has been one of the first in
creating an up-to-date system of foreign language training
introducing various additional educational programs. The most
important among them is Translator in the Sphere of Professional
Communication which gives the graduates the qualification of a
translator and the state diploma.
Center of
Innovations in Engineering Education established in MADI was granted
the mission of generalization of the experience of Russian and
foreign high schools in innovations in engineering education,
carrying out of pedagogical experiments on approbation of innovative
development, coordination of activity and introduction of
innovations in engineering education.
MADI(STU) is
the Coordinator of ILAN-project, it accumulated the experience of
Tempus-projects implementation being the Coordinator of the projects
DIERUU, TREM, MULTICEP.
Linköping
University, Sweden (SE3)
Interdisciplinarity is a keyword for the universitys research. The
university has developed several unique educational programmes that
transcend traditional academic borders. This approach was manifested
in the creation of Swedens first MSc programme in Industrial
Management and Engineering. Many similar ventures have followed,
such as the two programmes: Cognitive Science and Information
Technology. Combining humanities and social studies with computer
science, these programmes aim at a holistic view of information
technology.
At the
Department of Language and Culture the following subjects may be
studied: English, French, General Phonetics, General Linguistics,
German, Spanish, Swedish, Swedish for Foreign Students. Also special
purpose language courses are in the Institute of Technology.
The research
school Language and Culture in Europe started 1 January 2000 as a
postgraduate
continuation
of undergraduate studies.
The University
has the advanced experience in information technologies and
multimedia, its application in foreign language teaching, and
e-learning.
Tambov
State Technical University, Russian Federation
(RU4)
Mastering new
forms and methods of student and teacher language training is an
important part of TSTU educational work. Over the last years
Requirements for Foreign Language Knowledge of TSTU Graduates,
Foreign Language Modular Program for Engineering Students and
Practical Language Skills Reference Frame have been developed to
structure and assess TSTU students foreign language acquisition.
Center for International Professional Training offers bilingual
undergraduate degree programs in Russian and English. Such
integrated study of language and professional disciplines allows
students to develop English language communication skills and master
professional terminology simultaneously with acquiring new knowledge
of their specialty. Within the Center for Engineering Education a
special teacher training course has been developed in order to give
teachers necessary skills to teach through a foreign language
Integration of professional and language training at a technical
university. The course is focused both on developing linguistic
abilities such as discussion and presentation skills, and on
pedagogical approaches that the teachers can implement during
foreign language-medium lectures and seminars, as well as on
implementation of multimedia and IT in an integrated classroom.
The University
operates five centers for language training equipped with audio,
video and IT devices (totally 100 computer workstations) and two
media halls for students self-study.
TSTU is the
constant partner of the Consortium of Tempus projects DIERUU, TREM,
MULTICEP.
Moscow
State Agr-Engineering
University named after V. .
Goriachkin, Russian Federation (RU5)
MSAU has its
vast experience at development and implementation of complex modular
programs including innovative curricula and multimedia technologies.
The University
cooperates actively with over 30 universities and enterprises
outside of Russia, and our students are offered a bright opportunity
to participate in well-established international exchange projects.
Accordingly,
MSAU has been involved actively in a series of focus research
projects and SIG events (including those conducted by the
International Association of Teachers of EFL (Britain), the British
Council and DAAD). They developed a cluster of specialized
multi-level foreign language courses (on English, German and French)
for students, post-graduates, TVET teachers and university
professors. MSAU Foreign Language Department is recognized
nationally as a seat of educational innovations in the field, and
its international programs and courses taught are highly reputable.
The highlight here is our advanced language training program in
translation in the field of professional communication.MSAU
elaborated and introduced relevant teaching know-how, instruction
kits, and electronic and paper LSP manuals.
MSAU
participated together with other Consortium members in Tempus
projects DIERUU and TREM.
State Technological University
"Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys" (MISIS), Russian Federation
(RU6)
MISIS became
the winner in the competition of the Innovative Educational Programs
of Russian Federation within the framework of National Project
EDUCATION.
The University
today maintains academic and research cooperation with more than 90
universities, research centers and industrial companies from 29
countries, performing annually research contract and projects with
foreign industrial customers and maintaining international academic
exchanges programmers. Programs of academic mobility of students and
graduate students engulf about 120 students annually now.
Therefore MISIS
pays big attention to language preparation of students and
teachers. Foreign language teachers have practical skills of
technical translation and dialogue as they had scientific training
or lectures at foreign universities.
The University
applies modern information technologies in educational process. In
particular, students of a specialty "Linguistics" study English in a
mode of a teleconference together with Russian and foreign
Universities.
Specialists of
the Department of Engineering Cybernetics perform the works on
synthesis of the text information in English with use of the
object-oriented approach for distant learning.
